
City Clerk
The City Clerk serves as a vital link between the City Council, city administration, and the public, ensuring the efficient operation of local government processes. As the custodian of official city records, the City Clerk is responsible for documenting, maintaining, and disseminating council actions, ordinances, resolutions, and other critical documents.
Key Responsibilities
- Record Management: Electronically and physically records all minutes, ordinances, resolutions, and contracts approved by the City Council while maintaining a comprehensive archive system.
- Meeting Coordination: Prepares agendas and official minutes for City Council meetings, provides public notices, and coordinates council travel arrangements for meetings and training.
- Public Communication: Serves as a liaison between city leadership and residents by providing timely access to public records and communicating council actions.
- City Code Updates: Manages monthly updates to the City Code and ensures all related documents are accessible online.
- Custodian of Records: Maintains the corporate seal of the city and ensures transparency by making council records available to city officials, staff, and the public.
- Appointment Oversight: Coordinates appointments to boards and commissions, maintains rosters of members and terms of office, and facilitates citizen engagement in local governance.
The City Clerk also collaborates with the City Manager’s office on public relations efforts to ensure clear communication about city programs and initiatives. This role is essential for upholding transparency, fostering civic engagement, and supporting efficient governance in Covington.
